Tracking your gym workouts is important.
By writing down what you lifted last time and trying to beat it the next time you’re in the gym, you’re using a method called progressive overload.
It is the number one way to get good results from strength training, and it’s how you build high-level strength and muscle.
If you’re not tracking, you’re just guessing.
Not tracking is how you end up spinning your wheels, lifting the same weights for the same number of reps for years on end, without ever getting stronger or building muscle.
Using a pen and paper feels good.
There is definitely something to the physical sensation of jotting something down, making a penciled dent in the physical world.
But, as I outlined in an article comparing paper logs vs. workout log apps (you can NEVER guess which one I, the CEO of a workout log app company, recommend!), there are some neat boons of tracking your workouts using a phone.
For one thing, if you’ve got your phone with you, you’ve got your workout log.
